ما دعاء الاستخارة؟
Question
What is the duʿāʾ of istikhārah [the prayer for guidance in a decision] like?
Answer
It is Sunnah. Istikhārah is Sunnah. It comes in the ḥadīth of Jābir, which is in Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn — if you read Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn. The ḥadīth of Jābir is ṣaḥīḥ. When a person is resolved on some matter other than an obligatory one and is hesitant about it, he seeks the choice of Allah, Majestic and High, and asks Him with the well-known duʿāʾ in the ḥadīth of Jābir, in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī. It is mentioned in Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn and elsewhere.
